External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has revealed why Indians are not allowed to hold dual citizenship. He said there are several economic and security challenges in providing dual citizenship, but added that the debate on the same is “still alive”. Jaishankar also said that the Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) programme is a step to bridge the demand. While many countries like the United States, Canada, Israel and even Pakistan offers dual citizenship, the Indian constitution does not allow it.

Dual Citizenship is a great option. Especially because India doesn't lose its talents to other nations. I'm a Scientist and I know how much it's needed. No one born in India (maybe some) who loves to come to India wants to lose the citizenship. Even after living abroad, the sense of belonging to India is of pride. I think India should allow dual citizenship. Although this, as pointed out, has security and economic issues, can be resolved by involvement of bilateral governments.

Indians settled abroad can contribute to improve the education system at highest standard and also contribute to boost the  economy by investment and by taxation. Security need to be worked out.

Dual citizenship is a pretty good idea, although the OCI (for me anyway) has been good enough so far.  I think that a couple of other moves could increase the number of OCIs returning to India, starting businesses, or even just retiring.  One would be the elimination of dual taxation, and taxng only the income in India.  This means that income like US pensions, social security and US investment income should not be taxed in India - bad enough to pay taxes on all of that in the US!

Dual citizenship can create the entry and ext of antibationals living in india and free run of cessessionism  in states like punjab . Indians need to be loyal to only one country . Either india or the country of mingration . If you give dual citizenship we will fall like the Pakistanis. Dont do this . Please

Single citizenship is fine for us. Dual citizenship will encourage more Indians to leave country as they will be Indian guaranteed than. Instead any special facility card etc must be there for OCIs which will attract them to contribute something to India too.

There are forces who can take misadvantage of dual citizenship to attack the political and economic structure of the country plus can evade taxes easily so it’s not really feasible just giving OCI card holders more freer option is better like allowing them to join the national football team .
